Drew Hume – Founder and Director, Navina Thai Yoga Therapy. BSc Human Biology, 200-hr Yoga Teacher
The overarching intention for all that I do is to bring people together through the art of compassionate touch. Touch has the power to communicate all the things that words aren’t good at, and yet often times we need to re-learn this idea of maintaining a meaningful touch-vocabulary.
Yes, part of my work is aimed at educating people on human biology and the physical forms of Thai Massage. But another, larger dream of mine is to ensure that as a culture, we become more touch-literate. I hope to dissolve the culturally engrained habits that have been spread out of the fear of touch. Touch-aversion goes against our deepest biological needs and so it continues to take us further and further out of balance. With greater education and with greater skill in compassionate touch we can return to a far healthier state, and a far more interconnected tribe.
I founded Navina™ as a way to spread this message and these teachings as far as possible – bringing people together from all corners of the globe. With each course I teach I attempt to pass on as much detail and intricacy as I possibly can, as it relates to both the nuanced physical postures of Thai yoga therapy, and the incredible power and of compassionate touch.
The Taboo Theme of Touch and Yoga
Friday, December 6, 2024 from 6-8pm EST (recording provided for 48 hours)
Are you unsure about applying touch in your classes? Or are you outright against it? It might be because you haven’t been given the information you need to approach this situation. Justifiably, there’s a lot of hesitation around touch when in a movement class. It’s got a bad reputation because it’s been used poorly, and reasonably consistently poorly.
The thing is though, with the right tools and the right knowledge, you won’t feel as daunted or as much like “a fish out of water”. This two-hour workshop will be exactly what you need to chip away at adopting a healthy touch practice, one that feels nurturing and safe for those with whim you’ll be working.
Come along and gain more confidence in touch.
Stay tuned for 2025…
